Dandelion

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) is classified as a medicinal plant by the World Health Organization (WHO). However, long before it was included on this list, folk medicine used this herb to support liver and kidney function.
The most biologically active substances are found in the roots and leaves of dandelion. They contain triterpenes, bitter compounds, phytosterols, pectins, inulin, resins, organic acids, vitamins (A, C, E) and many mineral salts containing potassium, iron, calcium and phosphorus.
This plant is a natural diuretic that can help eliminate toxins from the body. Dandelion, by increasing urine production and frequency, helps the kidneys eliminate toxins, salt, and excess water.
In addition, it has a protective effect on the liver, by detoxifying it – it binds and removes harmful metabolites produced in the human body – improving the functioning of this organ.

Horsetail

Horsetail action (Equisetum arvense) is primarily associated with the presence of a large amount of silicon in the form of silica. This element regulates numerous processes occurring in the body. Other valuable ingredients that respond to the beneficial properties of horsetail are flavonoids and organic acids. They exhibit the following effects: diuretic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antispasmodic and detoxifying. Horsetail, acting as a diuretic, removes urates, but does not disrupt the body's electrolyte balance. It causes toxins to be excreted along with water, but saves microelements. In addition, it has a detoxifying and stimulating effect on the liver, protecting it from the harmful effects of toxins.
Important: Horsetail contains antivitamin B1, therefore breaks in horsetail treatments should be taken. If long-term intake of extracts from this plant is necessary, the dose of vitamin B1 should be determined with a doctor.

Common nettle

Nettle (Urtica dioica) was already known in ancient times and for over 2 thousand years this edible plant has been used not only for its nutritional effects.
The antioxidant properties of nettle are determined by phenols, vitamins, chlorophyll, carotenoids and other compounds, which protect the body's cells from free radicals. The active ingredients contained in nettle have a beneficial effect on the regulation of the digestive system, and additionally accelerate digestive processes.
Nettle has cleansing and detoxifying properties thanks to its diuretic effect. Increased diuresis causes increased amounts of excreted unnecessary metabolic products, such as urea and chlorides. At the same time, it prevents fluid retention in the body and the formation of edema.

Green tea

Green tea (Camellia sinensis) in traditional Chinese medicine was used as a means of improving the functioning of the body in many ways. Nowadays, the beneficial effects of green tea have been confirmed by numerous scientific studies. Active substances: mainly polyphenols and catechins, contained in green tea improve blood circulation, strengthen immunity, reduce inflammation, improve liver metabolism, accelerate the fat burning process.
Green tea is one of the most popular herbs for cleansing the body. It has the ability to remove waste products and toxins and supports the detoxification functions of the liver.
The diuretic effect of green tea helps to increase the excretion of toxins and excess fluids from the body, which can be beneficial for kidney health and prevent swelling and lymph stasis. Additionally, the active ingredients of green tea that enhance metabolic processes can help cleanse the body of toxic substances that accumulate in the tissues.
Green tea can improve digestive health by stimulating digestion and reducing inflammation in the gut. Additionally, green tea has a prebiotic effect, promoting the development of healthy bacteria in the gut and supporting overall digestive health.

Peppermint

Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is one of the most valuable herbal plants with a very wide range of applications. This plant contains: essential oils, tannins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, bitter substances, organic acids, phytosterols, vitamins and mineral salts (containing iron, copper, magnesium, sodium, zinc). The most important substance in the raw material of peppermint is the oil containing, among others, menthol. Thanks to it, this plant has antispasmodic, relaxing, choleretic, carminative, antibacterial and antiviral effects.
Mint also has a diuretic effect, removing toxins from the body, and disinfecting the urinary tract.
For centuries, mint has been recommended for digestive system ailments, it stimulates the secretion of gastric juice, accelerating and facilitating the digestion and assimilation of food.

Body detox

Regardless of where you live or how you eat, toxins are present in the body of every person to a greater or lesser extent. These are dangerous chemicals that enter the body through drinking water, eating food or breathing air. Dangerous toxins include heavy metals, highly processed food, stimulants (alcohol, cigarettes, drugs), and some medications taken over a long period of time. The body removes toxins in several ways: through the urinary system (with urine), the digestive system (with stool), and through the skin (with sweat) and the lungs (when exhaling air).

If the toxin enters the human body, it can damage internal organs, including the liver, kidneys, lungs and brain. Elevated levels of toxins are manifested by, among other things, a negative mood, fatigue and weakness, which leads to a deterioration of health. Problems with the digestive system may also appear, including indigestion, nausea and stomach problems, as well as troublesome headaches and irritability of the body. The presence of toxins also affects the skin, causing, for example, skin changes in the form of a rash. Often, the skin becomes gray and dull, and the hair and nails - weak and brittle.

Getting rid of toxins from the body restores balance in the body and allows it to function properly. The effects of cleansing the body are visible quite quickly. After just a few days after starting the cleansing, you can notice an improvement in your well-being, an improvement in the functioning of the intestines and the entire digestive system, an improvement in the appearance of the skin, or a better functioning of the immune system.

Many people confuse body detox with a weight loss diet. Each of these processes has a different goal. While the diet is about reducing unnecessary kilograms, the goal of detox is to cleanse the body of toxins and unnecessary metabolic products that have a negative effect on the entire body.

The best cleansing treatment is a balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruit and plenty of fluids. During the cleansing period, and preferably permanently, we should give up highly processed foods, sugar and sweets, sweetened drinks, drinks containing caffeine (coffee, black tea), white flour products, excessive amounts of salt and alcohol. Additionally, meals should be low-calorie and have a low glycemic index.

In addition to a healthy, balanced diet, it is worth introducing some products with detoxifying properties into your diet, for example:

  • Water – approximately 80% of toxins dissolve in water, so you should start each day by drinking a glass of water on an empty stomach and then regularly supplement your fluid intake throughout the day.
  • Lemon juice – best as a glass of warm water with lemon juice drunk in the morning, before the first meal. Supports the functioning of the liver, kidneys, strengthens immunity.
  • Pickles – enrich the intestinal flora with beneficial bacteria, improve digestion, prevent constipation.
  • Linseed – supports intestinal function and facilitates the removal of toxins.
  • Herbs – body cleansing is supported by nettle, dandelion, mint, horsetail, green tea, artichoke, rockrose, speedwell, chamomile, lemon balm, and fennel.

Herbs for body cleansing and detox supplements

If we decide to cleanse our body of toxins, it is worth reaching for detox herbs that:

  • they have diuretic properties, thanks to which toxins are removed in the urine,
  • support liver function,
  • support kidney function,
  • support body cleansing,
  • have a beneficial effect on the digestive system,
  • stimulate digestion.

In addition to a cleansing diet, physical activity is important, as it stimulates metabolism, improves blood circulation in the skin and increases the removal of toxins through sweat. Additionally, it is worth using a sauna, full-body massage and warm baths.

It is important to remember that herbs that cleanse the body can cause side effects, and the reaction to them is due to the individual characteristics of the body. It is worth consulting a doctor before introducing them to your daily diet, especially when taking any medications, as they can interact with herbs, posing a threat to health or even life.
