Nopal cactus

Nopal cactus (Opuntia ficus indica) is a plant originating from Mexico, now also cultivated in Europe, especially in the Mediterranean countries.

Prickly pear fruit consists of 90% water in which vitamins A, C, E, B1 and B6 are dissolved, as well as minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and sodium. They also contain a dissolved fraction of fiber, pectins, β-glucans, organic acids and alkaloids.

Studies have shown that eating prickly pears has a positive effect on the functioning of the digestive system. The pectins and fiber contained in it provide a feeling of satiety, reducing appetite. Active substances reduce fat absorption and increase glucose uptake in the intestines (lowering blood sugar levels). This allows for weight control and reduction of body fat.

Green tea

Green tea (Camellia sinensis) is one of the most popular and effective herbs used to maintain a healthy body weight. It contains chemical compounds such as polyphenols, catechins, caffeine, which allow you to increase the body's metabolic rate and suppress appetite, which helps reduce body fat. Additionally, catechins make our body absorb fat less, removing excess fat from the body.

The caffeine in green tea can help fight cellulite by removing toxins from the body. Numerous studies have confirmed that despite its metabolism-boosting effects, green tea does not raise blood pressure or speed up the heart rate.

Cykoria

Chicory traveler

Chicory (Cichorium intybus) has a long tradition of use around the world. Historically, chicory was cultivated by the ancient Egyptians as a plant that improved metabolism and aided digestion.

Chicory is a rich source of inulin, polysaccharides, vitamins, acids and mineral salts. Inulin is a natural prebiotic that stimulates the growth of beneficial microflora in the intestines, contributing to the improvement of their functioning. This translates into better immunity, proper functioning of the digestive system and increased intestinal peristalsis.

Thanks to the bitter compounds it contains, chicory herb supports the secretion of gastric juices, which improves the digestion process and liver function.

Chicory is also a good source of oligofructose, which, together with inulin, helps control weight. Both of these substances, by reducing the amount of ghrelin – a compound associated with the feeling of hunger and food-seeking behaviors – suppress appetite.

Imbir

Ginger

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) has been known for its health properties for hundreds of years. Numerous studies have shown that in addition to its antioxidant, antibacterial, and immune-boosting properties, ginger can stimulate digestion and influence the regulation of glucose and lipid levels in the blood. As a result, it has a positive effect on weight control.

Additionally, ginger suppresses appetite, which can help control calorie intake, and it also improves digestion, promoting better absorption of nutrients and the elimination of toxins from the body.

Slim shape

A well-balanced diet and appropriately selected physical activity are of great importance in maintaining a healthy weight and building an efficient, properly functioning body. The key is to take care of what and in what quantities we eat, as well as regular physical activity.

If the number of calories consumed exceeds the number of calories expended, the body experiences a positive energy balance, which results in the growth of adipose tissue. Excessive accumulation of adipose tissue leads to the appearance of overweight or obesity, impairing the functioning of the human body.

Being overweight or obese is not only an aesthetic problem, but above all a disease that poses a significant threat to health and life. Excessive amounts of adipose tissue disrupt the functioning of many body systems and can lead to many diseases: atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart attack, stroke, coronary artery disease, osteoarticular degeneration and many others.

In Poland, currently approximately 60% adult Poles and 20% children have problems with excess body weight.

In order to maintain a healthy body weight, it is worth implementing the following recommendations:

  • A properly selected diet providing all the necessary nutrients – fruits and vegetables as a source of fiber make you feel full for longer.
  • Eating regular meals to avoid hunger pangs and snacking.
  • Eat your meals mindfully and slowly – eating on the run is not conducive to weight loss.
  • Choosing complex carbohydrates rich in dietary fiber (e.g. whole grain products) makes us feel full longer.
  • Good fats – these are plant fats, but also those derived from fish.
  • Adequate fluid intake – choose beverages without sweeteners, e.g. water, herbal infusions.
  • Regular physical activity – allows you to burn calories consumed with food.
  • A healthy and hygienic lifestyle – avoiding stimulants, adequate sleep and avoiding stress.

It should be emphasized that, contrary to what you can read in many sources, no miracle drug has been invented to lose unnecessary kilograms. This is not possible due to the highly diverse factors contributing to the occurrence of obesity: genetic, environmental, metabolic, neuroendocrine, psychological. Without changing eating habits and including regular physical activity, the use of any drug will not give results in the form of permanent weight loss.

Herbs and natural dietary supplements for weight loss

Using weight loss herbs in combination with a healthy diet and exercise will help you lose excess weight.

It is worth reaching for slimming herbs that:

  • regulate the functioning of the digestive tract,
  • they contain large amounts of dietary fiber, which gives a feeling of satiety,
  • reduce the absorption of fat from the digestive tract,
  • support fat burning, accelerate metabolism,
  • increase the body's energy expenditure,
  • stimulate digestion,
  • lowers the level of “bad” cholesterol in the blood,
  • lowers blood sugar and insulin levels,
  • have an antioxidant effect.

Many studies have shown that some herbs can be natural aids used in the process of losing excess weight and fighting obesity – the disease of the 21st century.

It is important to remember that herbs that aid in weight loss can cause side effects, and the reaction to them results from the individual characteristics of the body. It is worth consulting a doctor before introducing them to your daily diet, especially when taking any medications, as they can interact with herbs, posing a threat to health or even life.
