Common nettle

Nettle (Urtica dioica) is the "queen of Polish herbs", widespread almost all over the globe, and has become one of the most popular medicinal plants.

Nettle leaves are extremely rich in valuable vitamins (A, B2, pantothenic acid, C, K), mineral salts (containing zinc, calcium, silicon, iron, iodine, sulfur, sodium, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium), carotenoids, flavonoids and even unsaturated fatty acids. This whole composition makes nettle protect the skin from excessive keratinization, maintain smooth skin and stop psoriatic changes.

The antioxidant properties of nettle, resulting from the presence of phenols, vitamins and carotenoids, help protect the body's cells from free radicals. One source of free radicals is UV radiation, to which our skin is exposed every day.

By using nettle extract, we can improve the condition of our skin, as well as strengthen our nails and hair, especially the bulbs, preventing them from falling out, becoming dull and oily.

Horsetail

Horsetail action (Equisetum arvense) is primarily associated with the presence of a large amount of silicon, which regulates numerous processes occurring in the body. It affects, among others, the condition of: skin, hair, nails, bones and blood vessels. It has mineralizing, strengthening, regenerating and rejuvenating properties. In addition, it affects the metabolism of collagen and elastin, improves the firmness and elasticity of the skin, accelerates the healing of wounds, limits the formation of wrinkles, prevents brittleness and splitting of nails and hair loss, and also accelerates their natural growth.

Other ingredients responsible for the beneficial properties of horsetail are flavonoids and organic acids. These compounds also protect the body from free radicals, and as a result, slow down the aging process and reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases.

Important: Horsetail contains antivitamin B1, therefore breaks in horsetail treatments should be taken. If long-term intake of extracts from this plant is necessary, the dose of vitamin B1 should be determined with a doctor.

Rosehip fruit

Rosehip fruit (Rosa canina) are highly valued due to the rich content of biologically and physiologically active compounds.

Thanks to its high content of vitamin C, carotenoids and polyphenols, rosehip extract is a valuable source of ingredients that improve the condition of the skin. Vitamin C is involved in the formation of collagen in the skin, and antioxidants protect it from the harmful effects of UV radiation. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of rosehip make it a promising aid in reducing the signs of skin aging, as well as protection against damage and inflammation.

Black Elderberry

The beneficial properties of elderberry (Sambucus nigra) are primarily due to the presence of phenolic compounds, which are characterized by strong antioxidant activity. Phenolic compounds eliminate free radicals and prevent oxidative stress, which causes degradation of the body, thus contributing to the development of many diseases.

Polyphenols present in elderberry fruits have the ability to protect against UV radiation and its negative consequences throughout the body, but especially in skin cells.

Additionally, thanks to the high content of rutin, elderberry seals blood vessels and increases their elasticity.

Acerola

Acerola

Acerola (Malpighia glabra) is one of the richest and natural sources of vitamin C. This fruit has become popular due to its high antioxidant activity and significant amounts of ascorbic acid and other bioactive compounds, including amino acids, β-carotenoids, phenolic compounds and minerals.

Vitamin C has been shown to have the following effects on the skin:

  • Supporting the production of collagen, which affects the proper functioning of the skin (maintaining its elasticity and firmness) and blood vessels (strengthening).
  • Protecting cells against oxidative stress.

What's more, it turns out that after using acerola extracts, the skin is easier to maintain proper hydration and is also more elastic and firm.

Skin

The skin is the largest and most visible organ of the body, which is the first protective barrier of our body. It performs a number of key functions, such as: temperature regulation, resistance to microorganisms, maintaining electrolyte balance and protection against physical injuries, chemical agents and ultraviolet radiation.

Over time, the skin becomes more susceptible to damage, which weakens the functions it performs. In addition, the time factor itself causes skin aging, which results in the degradation of its components. The combination of natural aging with excessive exposure to destructive factors, such as UV radiation, without providing photoprotection increases the process of loss of skin barrier functionality and causes dryness, wrinkles and discoloration.

Dry, dull and lacking firmness skin does not necessarily mean that we are using bad skin care products. Our diet and lifestyle are responsible for the condition of our body and skin. If our diet is poor in nutrients, and we also live in constant stress and rush, the skin begins to exfoliate excessively, quickly loses moisture and becomes unpleasant to the touch. It is therefore worth taking care of the condition of our body by changing our lifestyle to a healthier one, as well as reaching for natural dietary supplements for the complexion, hair and nails.

How to care for your skin? Helpful dietary supplements for skin, hair and nails

  • Proper diet – introducing vegetables and fruits and other products rich in vitamins and minerals important for the skin into the daily diet. At any time, you can reach for additional support in the form of dietary supplements and herbs for the skin, hair and nails.
  • Hydration – it is worth drinking at least 1.5-2 liters of water every day, which not only affects the skin's hydration, but also ensures the proper course of all processes occurring in the body, including the absorption of vitamins and minerals.
  • Avoiding stimulants – alcohol contributes to the leaching of valuable vitamins and minerals from the body, and also accelerates the aging process of the skin, dries it out and increases the risk of inflammatory changes. On the other hand, cigarette smoke causes the skin to be dull and lack luster and ages faster.
  • Adequate sleep – too few hours of sleep are visible on the skin quite quickly in the form of puffiness and dark circles under the eyes. The skin loses its natural glow and becomes gray.
  • Protection against UV radiation during sun exposure – UV radiation negatively affects the appearance of the skin and accelerates the appearance of deep wrinkles.
  • Avoiding stress – intense and prolonged stress devastates the body, generating many reactive molecules that destroy cells.
  • Active lifestyle – practicing sports has a positive effect on circulation, and therefore on the nourishment of cells with the necessary active ingredients.
  • Proper care – using products designed for your skin type is extremely important. Too aggressive ingredients will damage it, too mild will not bring the expected results.

Sometimes, despite leading a healthy lifestyle, the appearance of the skin is not the best, and the hair and nails are in poor condition. Fortunately, improvement is often brought about by appropriate modification of the diet and the possible introduction of supplementation containing natural ingredients.

It is worth reaching for herbs for skin, hair and nails that:

  • provide a large amount of vitamins and minerals,
  • They have a strong antioxidant effect, protecting the body's cells from free radicals, which gives the skin a young, healthy appearance,
  • improve the condition of the skin, nails, hair and blood vessels,
  • protect the skin against excessive keratinization,
  • affect collagen metabolism,
  • improve skin elasticity,
  • slow down the aging process,
  • prevent brittle nails and hair loss,
  • protect the skin against the harmful effects of UV radiation,
  • They have a beneficial effect in soothing skin inflammation and accelerating the healing of wounds.

Natural dietary supplements for skin, hair and nails can be used both externally in cosmetics and internally in the form of extracts containing the appropriate active ingredients. Although single plant ingredients have great potential in terms of skin protection, mixtures of extracts containing several different ingredients show greater effectiveness due to their complex composition and complex action.

It is important to remember that herbs for skin, hair and nails can cause side effects, and the reaction to them results from the individual characteristics of the body. It is worth consulting a doctor before introducing them to your daily diet, especially when taking any medications, as they can interact with herbs, posing a threat to health or even life.
