Ginger

Analgesic effect of ginger (Zingiber officinale) has been known for centuries. In the early 1980s, it was shown that ginger also contains components that have pharmacological properties that mimic anti-inflammatory drugs. And 30 years later, scientists discovered that ginger is an effective painkiller for muscle pain resulting from exercise-induced injury. Participants in this study experienced a noticeable reduction in pain and inflammation when they consumed ginger.

Ginger is used to relieve pain accompanying degenerative changes, rheumatic diseases, arthritis, and also to relieve post-traumatic pain or muscle pain resulting from excessive exertion. It is worth noting that ginger rhizome extract is very often combined with other ingredients, creating complex preparations with synergistic effects.

Acerola

Acerola

Acerola (Malpighia glabra) is called the Barbados cherry. Thanks to its high vitamin C content, it helps in the proper functioning of cartilage and bones.

Vitamin C is essential for the proper production of collagen, a protein that is a natural component of connective tissue found in joints, bones, and muscles. Collagen is responsible for joint lubrication, prevents stiffening and swelling, and also delays joint degradation processes.

Vitamin C:

  • Supports the production of collagen, thus ensuring the proper functioning of cartilage and bones.
  • Contributes to the protection of cells against oxidative damage.
  • Contributes to maintaining the proper function of the immune system during and after intense physical exercise.
  • Contributes to reducing the feeling of tiredness and fatigue.

Horsetail

Horsetail herb (Equisetum arvense) has been valued for many years due to the presence of easily digestible silica. The silicon contained in the plant not only ensures a healthy appearance of the skin, hair and nails, but also maintains the flexibility of the joints and affects their proper condition. Silica is also present in the bones. Providing it with the diet can improve the formation, density and consistency of bone and cartilage tissue by increasing collagen synthesis, as well as improving the absorption and use of calcium in the body.

It has been shown that horsetail extract may also have an immunomodulatory effect and reduce inflammatory processes, so it may be used as an auxiliary agent in diseases associated with inflammation of the joints.

Important: Horsetail contains antivitamin B1, therefore breaks in horsetail treatments should be taken. If long-term intake of extracts from this plant is necessary, the dose of vitamin B1 should be determined with a doctor.

Common nettle

In nettle leaves (Urtica dioica) vitamins A, B2, C, K, mineral salts containing a lot of calcium, iron and silica and other compounds with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic and immunomodulatory effects were found. Thanks to them, nettle can act on the body in a nourishing, vitaminizing, mineralizing, strengthening, stimulating, regulating, regenerating and cleansing manner.

According to the latest research, introducing nettle leaves into the diet of people with problems in the musculoskeletal system helps reduce inflammation of the joints and rheumatic complaints. This is related to the phenomenon of inhibiting the synthesis of pro-inflammatory cytokines, as well as to the detoxification properties of uric acid in the blood, which, when deposited in the periarticular tissues, generates inflammation. The compounds contained in nettle allow the removal of uric acid from the body.

Joints

Joints are mobile connections of bones, thanks to which they can safely move relative to each other. There are over two hundred of them in the human body, the largest number of which are in the arms and legs. All joints have a fairly similar structure, they consist of the end fragments of bones, covered with special cartilage, placed in a special bag filled with synovial fluid. Synovial fluid ensures efficient movement of bones relative to each other, reduces friction and stabilizes joints. With the passage of time, the cartilage covering the bones is destroyed, the amount of synovial fluid in the joint bags decreases, as well as its composition, and as a result, it ceases to fulfill its basic function, which is the efficient functioning of the musculoskeletal system.

Lack of care for the proper condition of joints can lead to inflammation, pain and degenerative processes. Pain itself can have many causes: from mechanical injury to diseases that we rarely associate directly with the skeletal system. Sedentary or standing work, genetic predisposition, overweight, improper lifting of weights, chronic skipping of warm-up before training, lack of physical activity are the main factors contributing to joint degradation. It is important to take appropriate action as soon as we feel the first symptoms. It is worth changing your lifestyle to a more active and healthy one, as well as reaching for natural dietary supplements for joints. It is not worth disregarding the body's signals if the symptoms occur only during movement, because at a later stage, problems can also appear during rest or sleep.

How to care for joints? Herbs for joints and bones

  • Regular physical activity – appropriately matched to age, illnesses and abilities, physical activity gradually strengthens the functioning of joints and the entire body. Physical exercises that increase the strength of bone tissue, stretching and strengthening the appropriate muscle groups are recommended. Cycling, swimming and even walking are also great. Physical activity is also very important for building bone mass and maintaining it, it can even increase bone density.
  • A full-value and well-balanced diet – should be used prophylactically, as well as during the period of alleviating inflammatory or degenerative symptoms. You should eat products rich in protein and calcium, vitamins C, D, antioxidants and omega-3 and 6 acids. It is also worth reaching for natural dietary supplements for joints.
  • Maintaining a healthy weight – excess weight puts strain on joints and increases the risk of osteoporosis. Underweight can cause lower bone density and increase the risk of bone fractures.
  • Quitting stimulants – helps strengthen bones and joints. Excessive alcohol or nicotine consumption contributes to the deficiencies of substances needed for the synthesis of bone and cartilage tissue.

Properly selected natural joint supplements help in the proper functioning of the musculoskeletal system, which is the basis for efficient human movement throughout life. It is worth taking care of it now to keep it in the best possible condition for a long time.

To support the proper functioning of joints, it is worth reaching for herbs for joints and bones that:

  • have anti-inflammatory effects,
  • contain nutrients (e.g. silicon) that can support repair processes in joints,
  • help in the proper production of collagen to ensure the proper functioning of cartilage and bones (e.g. vitamin C),
  • have antioxidant properties,
  • prevent the development of the degenerative process by scavenging free radicals,
  • remove harmful metabolic products that have a negative impact on the condition of the joints.

It is important to remember that herbs for joints can cause side effects, and the reaction to them results from the individual characteristics of the body. It is worth consulting a doctor before introducing them to your daily diet, especially when taking any medications, as they can interact with herbs, posing a threat to health or even life.
