Globe artichoke

Globe artichoke (Cynara scolymus) is a plant containing many valuable active ingredients, such as cynarin, organic acids and flavonoids. Thanks to them, it has, among other things, choleretic, choleretic and hepatoprotective effects, detoxifies and regenerates the liver. Moreover, substances contained in artichoke reduce the content of cholesterol and free triglycerides in the blood, counteract atherosclerosis, as well as fatty liver.
Many pharmacological studies and clinical observations have verified and confirmed the positive effect of artichoke on the digestive system and support for liver function.

Chicory traveler

Chicory (Cichorium intybus) has a rich composition and is a source of many bioactive substances that have a positive effect on the human body. These include inulin, sesquiterpene lactones, phenolic acids, phytosterols, proteins, flavonoids, vitamins and minerals.
Due to the bitter compounds it contains, chicory stimulates the secretion of gastric juice, enhances liver function, increases the secretion of bile and improves its flow through the bile ducts.
Chicory also has a diuretic effect, which helps eliminate toxins from the body.

Dandelion

The first mentions of the therapeutic effects of dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) dates back to the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries, when the plant was used by Arab doctors to treat liver diseases.
Dandelion has primarily cleansing, detoxifying and strengthening effects on the body. It stimulates secretory functions and strengthens the liver, increases the amount of bile and the contractility of the bile ducts, has a beneficial effect on the secretory functions of the pancreas, stimulates the secretion of gastric juice and normalizes the entire digestive process. In addition, it has a diuretic effect, binds harmful metabolites produced in the human body, allowing the removal of toxins.

Horsetail

Application of horsetail (Equisetum arvense) in herbal medicine results from the presence of many valuable ingredients. The most valuable include: flavonoids, mineral compounds (silica), organic acids (phenolic), and plant sterols.

Due to the content of these compounds, horsetail has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and protective and liver-supporting effects.

Flavonoids contained in horsetail have a diuretic effect, remove excess urate, have an antispasmodic effect on the bile and urinary tracts, and detoxify and stimulate the liver to work.

Important: Horsetail contains antivitamin B1, therefore breaks in horsetail treatments should be taken. If long-term intake of extracts from this plant is necessary, the dose of vitamin B1 should be determined with a doctor.

Liver

The liver is the largest solid organ in the human body and is one of the most important organs in the digestive system. It performs many important functions, including: detoxification, filtration, metabolism, and storage.

The liver is responsible for neutralizing toxins, producing bile, converting ammonia to urea, and regulating hormonal balance. It also stores glycogen, fat-soluble vitamins, and minerals (e.g. iron), processes used red blood cells, performs immune functions, and additionally produces cholesterol and about 85% of all plasma proteins.

The liver rarely gives specific symptoms that would indicate damage or disease of this organ. Sometimes even basic laboratory tests will not show that it has been damaged, which is why it is so important to take care of your liver at all times.

How to care for your liver:

  • Quitting stimulants – alcohol is one of the liver’s greatest enemies, as is nicotine.
  • Replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats – limit animal fats in favor of plant fats.
  • A diet rich in vegetables and fruits – the antioxidants contained in them help protect liver cells from damage.
  • Avoiding highly processed foods – their consumption can lead to fatty liver and other metabolic problems.
  • Healthy body weight – obesity can lead to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
  • Regular physical activity – exercise helps burn excess fat, which is especially important in preventing fatty liver disease.
  • Drinking fluids – about 2 liters of water a day will help your body get rid of toxins faster.

The most effective is daily prevention, i.e. healthy eating habits, which can be supplemented with herbs and liver supplements.

When supplementing, it is worth reaching for herbs that:

  • help in liver regeneration,
  • increase the production of bile and help transport it in the bile ducts,
  • have a protective effect on liver cells,
  • regulate blood sugar levels,
  • have antioxidant properties,
  • they have detoxifying properties – they facilitate the excretion of harmful substances from the body and neutralize toxins,
  • have anti-inflammatory effects,
  • regulate cholesterol levels.

It is important to remember that herbs for the liver can cause side effects, and the reaction to them results from the individual characteristics of the body. It is worth consulting a doctor before introducing them to your daily diet, especially when taking any medications, as they can interact with herbs, posing a threat to health or even life.
